Middle school years are rough. For everyone. Coaches. Teachers. Parents. Especially those 6th to 8th graders. Now that I’m a ‘grown up’ I wouldn’t want to live through that time period again. (College probably. Middle school. Never.)

But when my daughter and her friend wanted to see the movie Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life (an adaption of James Patterson’s novel by the same name), I went with them. I sat through 90 minutes of lockers, family dynamics, rule violations, bullying as well as some of the best pranks I have ever seen. I’ll admit it. I laughed and cringed. And probably cried a little. Only a little though.

Middle school years might be hard, but they have their redeeming qualities as well: teachers who care, friendships, the ability to begin making class selections and first kisses. All wonderful things.

I would like to share with you several of the middle grade books that are published by BQB and WriteLife Publishing that portray these middle school years in all their glory and grossness…
