Red Samuels, The Husband's Secret, The Promise of Another Life

I just finished reading The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. It was full of twists, interwoven lies and secrets. There were so many acts of betrayal that I’m not even sure who I was rooting for by the end of the novel. Throughout the story, it begged readers to consider these questions: How big of a secret can you keep? And for whom? And for how long?

These questions are hard to answer. If you like books about secrets, deception and intrigue, try The Promise of Another Life by Red Samuels.

promise-400x600The Promise of Another Life by Red Samuels – With a vicious lie, young Christian Pentnam changes his destiny from trailer park trash to the son of a wealthy man. But behind the mansion walls is a life of secrets and lies—secrets that haunt him into his adulthood. His love for Rachel and his passion for painting are the two things that help him survive his father’s cruelty, but even those are torn away.

As an adult, the ghosts of Christian’s childhood are buried along with his heart. If he listens to the whispers from the past, he stands to silence a killer who has one last victim square in his scope. Will the secrets and lies of his youth be the destruction of Christian, the man, or will the memories he hid from eventually be his salvation?

This question – “What’s for dinner?” – is the bane of my existence. It is the pebble under my heel. The mosquito trapped in my curls. The itch in the middle of my back.

And it happens every single day. Why? Just why, do they want to eat dinner every single day?

Between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. there are soccer practices, Cub Scout meetings, church classes, running club laps, grandparent visits, spelling words to study, math facts to memorize and sometimes we even manage to toss a kid or two through the shower shampoo gauntlet. Cooking doesn’t particularly pair well with any of these activities.

So, back to dinner. “What’s for dinner?” I have no idea.

But here is a book I’ve found that can help. Author, Harriet Hodgson, has been a caregiver for her family for many years and has mastered the art of healthy, delicious, and easy family meals. Keep reading to learn more about Harriet and The Family Caregiver’s Cookbook:

cookbook-390x600This is Book 4 in The Family Caregiver’s Series. The books in this series are designed to support you, the family caregiver, which in turn will help you be supportive to your loved one.

You’re in the caregiving trenches and barely make it through the day, let alone have the energy to prepare fancy meals. But meals don’t have to be fancy or hard to make in order to be delicious, nutritious, and healthy. Harriet Hodgson, a dedicated home cook, former food writer, and family caregiver, wanted to fix delicious meals for her disabled husband. A creative cook, Harriet adapted favorite family recipes and created new ones for this book, reducing salt, fat, and sugar. Personal stories add to the recipes and each one ends with “Caregiver Tips.” You’ll get tips on how to stock your pantry, speed shop for groceries, understand the effects of sodium, and practice food safety. The book is set in larger print that makes it easy to read. Treat your loved one—and yourself—to these easy-fix, delicious, and satisfying recipes. Make every meal a celebration of life!

Harriet’s other books in The Family Caregiver’s Series include:

Romance, Choices and Discovery in The Rocky Creek Series

I’m watching Season 5 in Downton Abbey (I know I’m several seasons behind, but that is how I roll).  It is the one where the main conflict seems to be Lady Mary choosing between two suitors, both of which are rich, handsome, dark haired men. Romance throughout the ages and around the globe is drastically different. From arranged marriages to finding love on their own, there are traditions and norms that are followed. Usually. Lady Mary sure seems to be breaking all the conventions of the times in Season 5 and earning the evil eye of her Grand’mama.

If you love romance, either on the screen, on the pages of a book or in real life, The Rocky Creek Series is definitely worth discovering.  The three books in the series contain all the secrets, broken hearts, rekindling relationships, and passion of lost loves that make romantic reads beautiful. Be sure to check out What it Takes, On the Line, and Into the Light to meet characters that readers will fall in love with!

Born and raised in Virginia, author, Kathryn Ascher tried her hand at poetry and fiction in high school, but put it all aside when she went to college. After graduating with her degree in communications, she married her college sweetheart and went to work for a local radio station. When her first child was born, she became a stay-at-home mom and began spending her free time crafting and reading.

It was after the birth of her third child that Kathryn decided to give writing another try. When she picked up her first romance novel, she immediately knew that it was the genre for her. Her debut novel, What It Takes, draws from the strong lead characters, the quirky secondary characters, the settings, the humor, and, most importantly, the feeling of falling in love for the first time that initially captivated her. Her second novel, On the Line, is the Book 2 in the Rocky Creek Series. Into the Light is her third novel and will release on October 4, 2016. It is available for pre-order now.

Kathryn resides with her husband and three children in Land O’ Lakes, Florida.
