I’m shy. I’ll be the first to admit it. When I meet new people, especially in a group setting, I really have to pull my shoestrings up tight and remind myself that other people are nervous too. And that they are there for the same reason: to make connections, meet new people and share information. And I also have to remember that they aren’t vampires trying to suck the life out of me just by making conversation. (just kidding) (kinda)

But seriously, sometimes there is that one person at a party or business event that seems to float around the room with ease. You know who I’m talking about. Someone who remembers the names of everyone they meet, who introduces people with common interests and then moves on to introduce others, who is so confident and sincere they bring everyone up with them and the event is a shining success. How do those people do it so well?

I’m not exactly sure, and it certainly isn’t natural for me, but I’m trying. Just this morning I went to a networking meeting with a group of writers and I forced myself (out of my comfort zone) to sit next to someone new. Guess what? After we talked a bit, I decided that I had a lot in common with this woman. We traded cards and each have some future projects we can help each other out with.

Networking, when approached with the right mindset can be fun and beneficial for everyone. If you’re new to networking, returning to it after feeling awkward, or on the search for a new job, here is a book to help you find and define success:

networkingThe Motivated Networker by Brian E. Howard, is a practical, no-nonsense guide for networking during a job search. When 60-80% of all jobs are filled through some form of networking, mastering the skill of networking is imperative to success in landing a new job in the shortest time possible! Brian Howard provides a proven and systematic approach for helping thousands of job seekers find hidden job market openings leading to job offers. This book gives you a distinctive competitive edge by teaching networking techniques that will create job leads, interviews, and a fulfilling career position!

The Motivated Networker is part of The Motivated Series, which based off of The Motivated Job Search, the most comprehensive job search guide currently on the market. The Motivated Networker provides networking techniques and insight not otherwise written about, while thoroughly covering typical networking topics. It is a comprehensive approach for today’s job seeker who needs quick and direct guidance for effective networking during a job search.

Dr. Ivan Misner, Founder of BNI (Business Network International) says, “The Motivated Networker is the most comprehensive networking book on the market on how to use networking to find a job. Well-written, thoroughly researched, and practical, The Motivated Networker covers important networking topics and introduces the ‘ICE’ Method for job search networking. It is a must-read for all job seekers!”

motivated-389x600Brian Howard has also written The Motivated Job Search if anyone you know is looking for a new career or job change.

WriteLife Publishing is proud to announce our spring line up of new releases. These non-fiction books land in a variety of genres: self-help, biography, business, memoir and humor, of course. We hope you will enjoy them, be motivated by them and learn from them!

Letters from Madelyn: Chronicles of a Caregiver – 2nd Edition

by Elaine K. Sanchez

lettersMadelyn Kubin is a 70-year-old Kansas farm wife. She appears to be fragile because of her thinning white hair, macular degeneration, osteoporosis, congestive heart failure, and severe hearing loss. But when her husband Quentin suffers a debilitating stroke, she is forced to summon all of her physical, emotional, and spiritual strengths in order to care for him at home.

Madelyn manages her isolation, loneliness, and stress by going to her computer, disengaging her emotional monitor, and writing letters to her daughter Elaine.

Madelyn’s story of faith, courage, and love is told through her unflinching honest and surprisingly funny letters written in real time over the course of six-and-a-half years. Although she prays every day that she will be a willing channel for God’s love and compassion, there are plenty of days she feels like telling God to go find himself another servant. Madelyn writes unabashedly about her anger, guilt, depression, and grief. When Quentin displays dementia-related inappropriate sexual behavior, Madelyn eventually learns how to handle it with grace and humor. She shows how it is possible, even in the very worst end-of-life situations, to experience mental and spiritual growth.

This book is now available for pre-order. It will be released on May 17, 2016

We’re Not Sixteen Anymore

by Becky Andersen

not16Not since funny lady Erma Bombeck has there been a book written that so delightfully pokes gentle fun at common occurrence in everyday life —and in this case, dating. But not just any dating! Online dating. And specifically online dating when you’re closer to sixty than to sixteen.

Follow the tongue-in-cheek adventures of a Baby Boomer as she discovers the pitfalls and highlights of dating in the 21st Century’s cyber-world. Feeling naive and outside her comfort zone, the author prepares to step up to the plate of dating after a relative puts her on an electronic dating site. Like many people, she discovers she’s been in a time warp, and when she approaches dating like she did when she was in her teens, she discovers it’s entirely different.

What started out as entries on her Facebook page have expanded into detailed accounts of dating foibles and feats. Anyone who has embraced the concept of online dating will find her adventures humorous and charming.

This book is now available for pre-order. It will be released on June 7, 2016.

Not a Blueprint: It’s the Shoe Prints that Matter

by Nina Norstrom

blueprintAuthor Nina Norstrom lost her child to a disease, but that wasn’t the only toxic relationship she endured. In this book, she explores the effects that her relationships with grief, pain, trauma, and forgiveness have had on her life.

This tale exposes a mother’s struggle to escape her world of toxicity, her journey out of the clutches of diseased relationships, and the shoe prints the experiences have left on her family’s history. This story in its raw form projects a remarkable voice to the heroic fight, courage, and bravery gained when striking back to wipe out toxic relationships. Its message reveals that life brings many challenges and that each challenge provides lessons to be learned.

This book is not intended to be a blueprint for dealing with diseased relationships. It’s about the shoe prints: those symbols of life’s journey that are left by our experiences. Not a Blueprint: It’s the Shoe Prints that Matter is an insightful and inspiring personal story of one family’s journey through toxic relationships.

This book is now available for pre-order. It will be released on April 5, 2016

A Journal for Family Caregivers: A Place for Thoughts, Plans, and Dreams

by Harriet Hodgson

journalThis is Book 3 in The Family Caregiver’s Series. The books in this series are designed to support you, the family caregiver, which in turn will help you be supportive to your loved one.

Dozens of journals are available. Why buy this one? This journal is just for you—a family caregiver—and deals with issues that you handle on an ongoing basis: your tasks, practicing self-care, your self-talk, job satisfaction, and more.

To set the tone for the day, each page of the journal section begins with an affirmation. The writing prompts are different than in most journals. Instead of asking questions or setting up a scene, this journal uses a “finish the sentence” approach. You can write a little or a lot. Action steps are the last item on each journal page. When you finish your journal, you’ll be able to look back and create an action plan that will make your caregiving easier for you and more enjoyable for your loved one.

Publication date: March 15, 2016 (View the complete Caregivers Series)
