thesearemypeopleOf all the American Idol seasons, my favorite winner is Carrie Underwood. No matter what size city I live in, I’ll always be a small town girl with a love for country music. I’m not sure if it is the guitar chords, the lyrics that always seem to feel authentic or the country twang that fills out the voices of its singers, but I love it all.

If you’ve been a fan of country music for a long time, you’ll remember a singer and songwriter named Merle Kilgore. He’s in the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame for his words and tunes are still heard today. His most famous song is “Ring of Fire” that he co-wrote with June Carter Cash. It just happens to be in the top four country songs of all times according to CMT.

Kilgore’s grandson, Mark Rickert, has written a tell-all book called These Are My People that can’t be missed by country music fans. The stories of double dating with Elvis Presley and carrying Hank Williams Jr.’s guitar are accompanied by many black and white photographs from the family collection.

Learn about Kilgore’s life on and off stage in this new release. It will be available from WriteLife Publishing on September 27, 2016 and is available for pre-order now.
